Okada rider jailed for raping of underage in Kwara

The Kaiama division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command has arrest one Hussain Kamilu of Ado village, for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl, Mariam Suleiman at Adogo village.

The 35-year old suspect was alleged to have taken the victim on bike to an unknown place where he sexually molested her and threatened her not to tell anyone.

His arrest was contained in a statement signed by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Ayeni Okasanmi on Tuesday in Ilorin.

“However, Mariam eventually gained the needed courage to report the case at the NSCDC Kaima Division on 1st of April 2023.

“She reported that she’s been psychologically affected by the action of the suspect.

Thereafter, the suspect was arrested on the 2nd of April and after investigation, he confessed to the offences,” the statement said.

It added that the suspect has already been charged before Magistrate Abubakar Ahmed Boro at the Magistrate Court, Kaiama. 

“He was summarily tried as follows; one-year imprisonment for criminal trespass with the option of fine, one-year imprisonment for intimidation with the option of fine, while for that of forced sexual assault, he was given one and half years without the option of fine at New Bissau Correctional service, Niger state,” the statement added.

The state Commandant, Muhammed Tukur Ibrahim appealed to the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement around them to any security agency.

He assured the people of working more to ensure that the rate of criminality in the state is properly checked.
