Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President Olusegun Obasanjo are among the dignitaries expected to grace the turbaning of a former chairman of National Iron Ore Mining Company, Iktape, Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq as Mutawalli of Ilorin on Friday.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari had appointed Alimi, the heir of the late AGF AbdulRazaq (SAN) as Mutawalli of Ilorin following the demise of his father who was the last holder of the prestigious traditional title.
Addressing a pre-turbaning press conference in Ilorin, Kwara State capital yesterday, the chairman of the organising committee of the turbaning event, Dr Yusuf Lawal disclosed that dignitaries that would grace the ceremony include Osinbajo and Obasanjo.
Yusuf added that some state governors will also grace the function to honour their Kwara State’s counterpart, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who is the junior brother of Alimi.
He said all arrangements have been concluded for a hitch- free ceremony, appealing to all admirers, friends and associates of the honoree to conduct themselves in orderly manner during the event.
On the significance of the title of Mutawalli, Yusuf said, “It’s an honorary title giving to the people of timber and calibre, with interest of community at heart”
“The title is meant for the trustworthy person, who can use his sincerity for the betterment of the Emirate, state and humanity”
The honoree, Dr. Muhammed Alimi AbdulRazaq, a senior brother to Governor AbdulRahman, is a trained lawyer with decades of post-call experience.
The Managing Partner of A. Abdul-Razaq (SAN) & Co. was born in Zaria, Kaduna State. He atttended Capital School Kaduna and St Gregory’s College Ikoyi, Lagos.
AbdulRazaq is a graduate of Law from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and holds an LLM and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Hull, UK. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria, and an elected member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, London. He’s on the board of First Bank Holdings as a non-executive director and holds several other board membership.
AbdulRazaq is also the founder and chairman of Bridge House College, Ikoyi, Lagos. He has also served the nation in several capacities as Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Enforcement with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC); chairman, National Iron Ore Mining Company , Itakpe, and member, National Council on Privatization.
He is happily married to Mrs Foluke Kafayat AbdulRazaq who is the Group Vice Chairman of Transcorp Nigeria .
