Police arrest suspended Adamawa REC

The suspended resident electoral commissioner of Adamawa state, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force over his conduct during the governorship election in the state.

Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday May 2, 2023 said Yunusa-Ari is currently under police custody.

“Barrister Ari, who was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023, is currently in police custody and is being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa state,” the statement said.

The suspended REC had immediately after supplementary governorship election showed up at the state collation centre and declared All Progressives Congress candidate Hajiya Ahmed Binani winner, a situation that stirred anxiety in parts of the country.

Thereafter, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered his investigation and others involved in such shenanigans.
