Kwara state government on Friday commenced the evacuation of huge depot of debris at Ondoko market, Okelele, in Ibagun ward of Ilorin East local government area.
The state commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Mrs Juliana Funke Ayedun was at the site to monitor the exercise.
The commissioner, had during a visit to the Ondoko market about two weeks ago assured the people of Okelele community of the readiness of the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to help them evacuate the debris at the all- important market.
When it becomes fully operational, Ondoko market will serve as a good alternative to Ipata market.
Residents and community leaders in the area who see the evacuation of the debris as a prelude to the effective take off of the market, conceived by the Ilorin East LGA in 1995, poured encomiums on Governor AbdulRazaq for his intervention.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the chairman, Ibagun Progressives Union(IPU), Alh Kuranga Omomeji Morogun,thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for his kind gesture.
He said the governor’s love for Ibagun/ Okelele community has culminated in the appointmentof three illustrious indigenes of the area into key political offices in the state.
Morogun also thanked the state commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Juliana Ayedun for her support and cooperation.
The IPU chairman expressed delight that the governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alh Saadu Salahudeen, who conceived the market project when he was supervisor for Works in Ilorin East LGA in 1995, is also a part of the government that is helping to revive the market.
The chairman of Ibagun Community Elders, Alh Shuaib Osere, the ward chairman of the All Progressives Congressional (APC), Taiye Ajimati and the transport union’s chairman, Ondoko market, Alh Ibrahim Dasuki, joined the IPU chairman in thanking Governor AbdulRazaq for his kind gesture.
They assured him of the continued support of the people of the area and prayed God to grant him a successful tenure.
The representative of the firm handling the evacuation of the debris,Ahmed Ibrahim said the job will be completed within four days.
