Rotary Club Donates Waste Bins, Borehole To Ilorin Communities, As KWSG Hint on Readiness To Prosecute Household Without Toilet

District 9125 of Rotary Club of Ilorin Metro on Tuesday 6th of April, donated waste bins and borehole to some selected areas in Ilorin, kwara state capital in commemoration of Water and Sanitation month.

Speaking with Journalists, the President of Rotary Club of Ilorin metro, Mr. Youssef Sanders, said “in rotary we have plan on how to contribute to the development of society, on monthly basis and this month is for hygiene and sanitation, and we decided to site waste bin in some areas in Ilorin metropolis, based on need assessment”

We, also embarked on campaign against unhygienic environment by sensitizing people on the need to always ensure that their environment is always clean to avoid airborne diseases.

“As part of our activities for this month of water and sanitation, we are sensitizing people on why their environment must always be clean, we let them understand the health hazard in living in dirty environment, such as airborne diseases”

Talking on how they were able to identify the communities that needs waste bin, rotaract Youssef said “we approached the State Ministry of Environment and they helped out, added that in the case of Oju-Koto area in Oja-gboro community, it was a funny one, because, we, coincidentally met a young guy who happened to be a youth leader in Oja-gboro community at the ministry of Environment, who said to have been visiting the ministry of Environment for close to 5 months, to solicit for waste bin for his community and the Director of Environment in the ministry, just introduced him to us, and that was how we later gave them three (3) waste bin in that community, we also promised them more by the time we saw how they drop refuse indiscriminately in that community”

Another plus to the people of Oja-gboro community, luckily for them, our District Governor, Rotaract Jumoke Bamgboye was the one that commissioned waste bin in that community and when she saw the condition of that environment and complains of scarcity of water in that community by the residents, she decided to approve a borehole water for them with immediate effect.

In his remarks, the Director of Environment in the State Ministry of Environment, Mr. Towoju Gabriel applauded the kind gesture of district 9125 of rotary club, said “the ministry is also doing its best in terms of ensuring that the state is hygienic and in view of this, starting from July, this year, the ministry of Environment will start visiting household to inspect their toilet, and anyone caught without a toilet in their compound will be prosecute”

Expressing appreciation to the donor on behalf of the community, spokesperson of Oja-gboro community at the event, Mallam Umar Abdul, Said “we will ensure proper use of the waste bin, because, we have been struggling to get waste bin in our community before now, considering the fact that, we are much aware of health hazard in drooping refuse indiscriminately and in view of this, we are grateful to rotary club of Ilorin metro”

Rotaract Youssef, also disclosed that seven (7) waste bins and one borehole were donated in total to different places, like; Oja-gboro, Flower Garden, Palm Mall (Shoprite) at Fate Road and Ahmadu Bello way in G.R.A, Ilorin.
