Why National Grid Collapsed – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the recent national electricity grid collapse is due to a fire outbreak. 

While the grid had collapsed earlier in the day with several distribution companies confirming the development, the TCN in explaining the reason for the incident, said Thursday’s development is the first in almost one year.

“Meanwhile, the collapse that occurred after a fire incident on Kanji/Jebba 330kV line 2 is being investigated, with the view to forestalling future occurrence and invariably further strengthen the grid,” the agency’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

According to her, the TCN had been able to maintain the grid’s stability for over 421 days “because it developed and deployed in-house stop-gap measures and tools that it has continued to use to manage the nation’s grid, ensuring its stability”.
