Alleged Relocation of Herders: NSCDC Call On Kwara Communities To Be Security Conscious

Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) kwara state command have called on the residence of some communities in Kwara south senatorial district to be security conscious following how the combined team of vigilante, Civil Defence and Police Force reportedly repel suspected Herders loaded in trucks from entering Ipee township in Oyun local government area of the state.

According to the statement signed by the spokesperson of the NSCDC, kwara command, Babawale Zaid Afolabi said
“at about 0800hrs on Tuesday 4th May 2021 four (4) trucks fully loaded with Fulani/bororo herdsmen entered Ipee township but unfortunately for them, people of Ipee and all the local vigillantes came out enmass to disallow them from entering the town with the help NSCDC officers in Ipee and the NPF who led them out with their patrol van”

He also disclosed that the agency got some security information “we received an information that Herders from OSUN and ONDO states as been moving in to the Ipee town that share boundary with Offa local government. These Herders were denied by Ondo and Osun States due to the criminal activities been carried out by the group. we also identified that Herders came into boundary were loaded with four trailers along side the cattle wanted to settle in offa. On this note security agencies in offa has intercepted and lead them out towards boundary between Osun and kwara state”

The agency, however call on the people of Kwara communities to be proactive and report any strange movement in their vicinities to the security agencies.

“We advised the towns that bordered with offa to be proactively, promptly raised alarm wherever they notice or suspect any strange movement”

“They should be very security conscious about bandits and also notify peoples around them and report to security agencies nearest to them”
