Stakeholders of relegation threatened Kwara United rose from an emergency meeting on Monday, totally committed to keeping the club in the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, and vowing to set all machineries in motion to that effect.

The meeting was convened at the instance of the Kwara State Sports Commission, KSC, executive chairman, Coach Bola Mogaji.

After Sunday’s match with Bendel Insurance in Ilorin where the team managed a home 1-1 draw, the state government owned club is currently on 16th position on the NPFL log, with 33 points after playing 28 matches.

The position is slightly above Rivers United at 17th position.

But the Rivers club has six outstanding matches to play and boasts of incredible war chest with which fights its way all the way to the top of the chart.

Other embattled clubs are, from bottom, Gombe United, Heartland FC, and Akwa United.

But the danger, as analyzed by the stakeholders, is that Heartland and Akwa, are battle wizened clubs with enormous resources.

“I am confident that we can beat the drop because I have confidence in the club management,” said, Coach Mogaji.

Also speaking confidently, Mr Kumbi Titiloye, chairman, Kwara United, said that all hope is not lost.

“Yes, we have a daunting task ahead of us.

“But I want to us to remember that this is Kwara United and we know how to survive battles such as this,” Titiloye added.

He promised that everything will be put in place to ensure that the club survives the drop.

“I wish this meeting was meant for us to brainstorm on how we can successfully prosecute a continental challenge,” he expressed sadly.

Speaking further, the journalist urged for more synergy between the coaching crew and club management.

The meeting also had representation from the state governor, Mall Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, in the person of Mr Fafoluyi Olayinka, aka ‘Solace’, Senior special assistant on media and avid sports aficionado in Kwara.

According to him, the governor has invested so much in sports because he is sports loving and would like to see Kwara United do so well.
