A devastating rainstorm struck the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, on Saturday, causing widespread destruction of camp facilities and Millions worth properties. The heavy downpour, which began early in the day, was accompanied by strong winds that wreaked havoc across the camp premises.
According to our source, the extent of the damage is significant. Several key facilities within the camp suffered considerable destruction. Among the structures affected are the Multipurpose Hall, the Administrative Block, the Camp Mosque, and several hostel blocks housing corps members and camp officials.
The rainstorm also left a trail of destruction on the camp’s saluting dais and the newly constructed volleyball court, which had been one of major attraction within the camp.
In addition, two vehicles, belonging to camp officials were completely wrecked after a mighty tree, uprooted by the fierce winds, crashed down on them, rendering them beyond repair.
The source further suggested that sweep action is expected from the relevant authorities to assess the full extent of the damage for urgent intervention of necessary repair and restore affected facilities to ensure the continuity of activities at the camp.
