Gunmen have been reportedly kidnapped the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State, Rt. Rev. Oluwaseun Aderogba, his wife and driver.
The victims were said to have been kidnapped around 8:30 pm yesterday, Sunday at Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway while trying to fix their car that broke down on the road.
The Kwara State Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Bishop Sunday Adewole confirmed the abduction of the clergyman and his co- travellers.
He said the victims were kidnapped on Sunday evening between Oyo and Kwara State when they were attempting to fix their faulty vehicle on the highway.
He said that the abductors have contacted the Church, demanding for N50m ransom.
It was gathered that Aderogba, his wife and his driver were returning from a function in Ogun State before the vehicle developed a fault which led to an abrupt stoppage of the journey along the Oyo/Ogbomoso highway where they were abducted.
Bishop Adewole described the incident as a sign of the total collapse of the country’s security architecture of the country.
He recommended state policing as an antidote to the problem of insecurity in the country.
When contacted, the Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said “we heard it just like you, and we are ready to render any technical assistance, to rescue the victims”
